Orwell for the Ears is the debut audio drama series from producer Ethan Gibson. Co-editor of the first Unbound Imaginings, Genesis of Terror, and full editor on The Meaning of Big Finish essay collection. Since his time with us at Divergent Wordsmiths, he's gone on to produce Influencing the Doctor, a podcast featuring many of the prominent creative forces working for Doctor Who today. His latest endeavour is "adapted from several of the most celebrated works of George Orwell, Orwell for the Ears will bring together a diverse cast and production team, featuring a variety of ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations. The goal of Orwell for the Ears is to bring to life both the classic and lesser-known works of George Orwell for a new generation to enjoy, whilst championing the original text in all adaptations." Salutations Wordsmiths!
For our authors interested in the upcoming second volume of the Paul Spragg ReCollections, we've got official confirmation of the Paul Spragg Short Trips Opportunity on the Big Finish website. The deadline is expected to close at the end of June 2021. A quick checklist of what to expect for submissions in terms of content:
The publishing requirements of the competition are that you haven't worked with Big Finish before (ideal for any newcomers and fresh-faced authors) and the submission hasn't been published anywhere else. Further details, in depth, can be found at the link above. Best of luck to all involved and happy writing! ~Vworp, vworp! Salutations Wordsmiths!
Good news! An update for writers interested in submitting to the Paul Spragg ReCollections: Volume 2. We've just received news that the Paul Spagg Memorial Opportunity from Big Finish will be running in 2021, but has been delayed for a variety of reasons at the moment. We'll be keeping an eye out for more information as things develop. Until then, keep writing! ~Vworp, vworp! A quick but important update regarding News content on our website. News about news, if you will.
As of a few hours ago, we now have a Twitter account where you can receive notifications from our News page of upcoming productions, contributor achievements, new releases and more. This account will be available to access alongside our preexisting Facebook page. ![]() Salutations Wordsmiths! It's been a while since our last transmission. We've been busy behind-the-scenes on a rather unusual set of side-projects. Some of which, if you're regular readers, you'll recognise from our Theories and Addenda page and some tackling a form of writing that we've never quite tried before. Working with writers and editors, we can announce our new major project for the year. The Paul Spragg 'ReCollections': Volume 2 For the past several years, Big Finish Productions have been running a short story competition commemorating a colleague and friend, Paul Spragg. It was originally suggested 2016 by Ian Atkins, the former producer of the Doctor Who: Short Trips range, and offers an opportunity for new writers to submit their work to the organisation for production. It's a phenomenal opportunity for a good cause. In 2019, Divergent Wordsmiths (that's us) put our "writing hearts on their writing sleeves", as Ian said himself in our "Introduction", and published The Paul Spragg 'ReCollections' Anthology. An independent, not-for-profit volume of stories from all the contributors, still eager and enthused, who wanted a home for stories that were submitted, but didn't make it to the winning position. These were stories from the past year or from years previous that covered all manner of Doctors and situations. We do this as a means of further celebrating Paul Spragg and giving authors who've already done the work for the competition, an opportunity to see it through to its conclusion. As such, for this collection, we will only be accepting submissions that have been made to the Paul Spragg Memorial Opportunity and we will be doing so after their submission window has closed. It's a great opportunity to get your work out there, practice the format for submissions and challenge yourself. Now, there's been no announcement yet (keep an eye out on the Big Finish page for updates in that regard), but we will be running the second volume of ReCollections regardless. So, if you have any old submissions or -- if there's a subsequent announcement from Big Finish and you have something new -- dust them off and consider giving them another home, here, at Divergent Wordsmiths. We'll have more information and goodies to share with you, readers and writers both, as time permits. Vworp, vworp~! |
