FASHION VICTIM – “Something has breached the safety of the TARDIS. Eroded her power and bent its systems to its will. It's intent? To destroy the Eleventh Doctor. Without mercy and without hesitation. And the Doctor is alone—well, almost alone...”

KERENSA'S SURPRISING LAGOMORPHS – “The Sixth Doctor and Melanie Bush are faced with a puzzle in Time. One that will annihilate an entire family unless stopped. They have seen the effects, but not its cause. Do young Kerensa and her unusual pets hold the way out...?”

THE REGENERATION DILEMMA – “There is a terror stalking the streets of Trusis. A Code: Gamma priority threat. However, the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa of Traken have met monsters before. This time, it's not quite so simple. Are the people of Trusis ready for the truth...?”

THE DINNER CRASHER -- “Sarenzi Akenaku is mere hours away from her ultimate triumph. She has planned her ascension to the smallest detail. Soon, she will be Empress, should this dinner party goes right. All that stands in her way is the Fourth Doctor...”

THE SIN EATERS – “In one of the darkest moments of his life, Alexander Hamilton is offered the opportunity to wipe away his sins. The temptation seems so rich, how can he refuse? So, why is the Ninth Doctor so determined to keep Hamilton from absolution?”

GIRL OUT OF NOWHERE – “On a cold Christmas, 2017, Kevin receives a visit in the sleepy Cardiff night. That doesn't seem quite right. Her name is Nyssa of Traken. She appears, as if from nowhere. Nyssa needs to find the Fifth Doctor... But, well, her friend is who knows where?"

THE SINGING PLANET – “The Sixth Doctor and his new friend, Margaret, think there's something odd about this latest performance on Cantabile. Virtuosa of the Maestri has given it her all and her audience are beguiled. It has all the makings of a farewell performance, but a farewell to who...?”

NIXED – [The circumstances surrounding the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith's presence at the Nixed Corporation have been sealed from public access. We thank you for your cooperation.]

FOUND BUT FORGOTTEN -- “The past stays with the Twelfth Doctor. However much he would like to leave it behind, it returns. Like a haunting, and it returns with a face. That of Donna Noble, a once dear friend. Now, gone. But, perhaps, the past has other plans for them...”

TOWER BLOCKED – “It should have been a routine visit to the Powell Estate. A quiet night away from the perils of the Universe. For the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler, however, their troubles never end. Isolated. Confined. Imprisoned. They must find a way to break free.”

DAUGHTER OF THE AMAZON – “Jo Grant's time in the Amazon has never been dull. However, she never expected the Third Doctor to return into her life so soon. Things can't be as they were, but there's no time to explain. The Doctor discovers a remarkable people are being stolen...”

THE ONCE AND FUTURE CRISIS – “The Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon and Victoria Waterfield are in a bit of a bind. It's the 1940s in an American military base and a routine trip to visit friends has gone terribly awry. Their only hope is Doc Holliday of D.C. – the First Doctor and Dodo Chaplet.”

Salutations, Wordsmiths!

As the Thirteenth Doctor closes in on the end of the universe, so too closes the Paul Spragg ReCollections: Volume 2 deadline.

Thank you to all of our authors. Newcomers and returning contributors. Those who submitted their first pitches and those who made it through to the final hour. We appreciate the time and energy you've put into taking part in this latest undertaking by Divergent Wordsmiths. Thanks to you, and your efforts, we're regenerating stories that would otherwise be lost to Time and honouring the passing of Big Finish contributor, Paul Spragg.

It's no exaggeration to say that we've received quite a healthy number of submissions. Including a few firsts for Divergent Wordsmiths. From here on in, it's over to the editors, but that's not the end of Doctor Who for the next few months. Far from it. The cosmos has been imperilled by the Flux in a massive multi-episode saga. Sit back, relax or jump behind the sofa, the Doctor is back.

Whether you browse our collections here or temporal travels elsewhere... Enjoy!

Salutations, Wordsmiths!

For the past several years, Big Finish Productions have been running a short story competition commemorating a colleague and friend, Paul Spragg. It was originally suggested 2016 by Ian Atkins, the former producer of the Doctor Who: Short Trips range, and offers an opportunity for new writers to submit their work to the organisation for production. It's a phenomenal opportunity for a good cause.

In 2019, Divergent Wordsmiths (that's us) put our "writing hearts on their writing sleeves", as Ian said himself in our "Introduction", and published The Paul Spragg ReCollections. A volume of stories from all the contributors, still eager and enthused, who wanted a home for stories that were submitted, but didn't make it to that one winning position. These were stories from the past year or from years previous that covered all manner of Doctors and situations. We do this as a means of further celebrating Paul Spragg and giving authors who've already done the work for the competition, an opportunity to see it through to its conclusion.

Many stories from competitions over previous years will fall under the category enforced by Rule #7:

"7. The story should not have been published anywhere before, nor should the entry have been submitted before."

If you have an entry submitted to the Paul Spragg competition you would like to see carried to fruition in the ReCollections anthology, this is the perfect opportunity to submit it to Divergent Wordsmiths. Our submission email can be found by following the instructions on our Submission Guidelines page.

We ask that you submit only a maximum of your 5 best pitches with the expectation of 1 or 2 stories being commissioned for the collection (the precise number to be determined by the comfort of the author). We look forward to seeing where the TARDIS materialises next. Best wishes to our Wordsmiths and happy writing!

Paul Spragg Short Trips Competition Begins!

20/5/2021

Salutations Wordsmiths!

For our authors interested in the upcoming second volume of the Paul Spragg ReCollections, we've got official confirmation of the Paul Spragg Short Trips Opportunity on the Big Finish website. The deadline is expected to close at the end of June 2021.

A quick checklist of what to expect for submissions in terms of content:
  • You can use the First through Twelfth Doctors (barring the War Doctor).
  • You can use all existing Classic Series companions (including those developed for Big Finish).
  • You can only use Rose, Martha and Donna from the New Series.
  • You cannot create your own companion.
  • You cannot use preexisting monsters.

The publishing requirements of the competition are that you haven't worked with Big Finish before (ideal for any newcomers and fresh-faced authors) and the submission hasn't been published anywhere else. Further details, in depth, can be found at the link above. Best of luck to all involved and happy writing!

Salutations Wordsmiths!

Good news! An update for writers interested in submitting to the Paul Spragg ReCollections: Volume 2. We've just received news that the Paul Spagg Memorial Opportunity from Big Finish will be running in 2021, but has been delayed for a variety of reasons at the moment.

We'll be keeping an eye out for more information as things develop. Until then, keep writing!

2021 for Divergent Wordsmiths

Salutations Wordsmiths!

It's been a while since our last transmission. We've been busy behind-the-scenes on a rather unusual set of side-projects. Some of which, if you're regular readers, you'll recognise from our Theories and Addenda page and some tackling a form of writing that we've never quite tried before. Working with writers and editors, we can announce our new major project for the year.

The Paul Spragg 'ReCollections': Volume 2

For the past several years, Big Finish Productions have been running a short story competition commemorating a colleague and friend, Paul Spragg. It was originally suggested 2016 by Ian Atkins, the former producer of the Doctor Who: Short Trips range, and offers an opportunity for new writers to submit their work to the organisation for production. It's a phenomenal opportunity for a good cause.

In 2019, Divergent Wordsmiths (that's us) put our "writing hearts on their writing sleeves", as Ian said himself in our "Introduction", and published The Paul Spragg 'ReCollections' Anthology. An independent, not-for-profit volume of stories from all the contributors, still eager and enthused, who wanted a home for stories that were submitted, but didn't make it to the winning position. These were stories from the past year or from years previous that covered all manner of Doctors and situations. We do this as a means of further celebrating Paul Spragg and giving authors who've already done the work for the competition, an opportunity to see it through to its conclusion.

As such, for this collection, we will only be accepting submissions that have been made to the Paul Spragg Memorial Opportunity and we will be doing so after their submission window has closed. It's a great opportunity to get your work out there, practice the format for submissions and challenge yourself. Now, there's been no announcement yet (keep an eye out on the Big Finish page for updates in that regard), but we will be running the second volume of ReCollections regardless. So, if you have any old submissions or -- if there's a subsequent announcement from Big Finish and you have something new -- dust them off and consider giving them another home, here, at Divergent Wordsmiths.

We'll have more information and goodies to share with you, readers and writers both, as time permits.

Vworp, vworp~!
